A superb antique oak cupboard dating to the early 20th century.
We are unsure of its original intended use but what is clear is that this very well made and solid cupboard was hand built for a very particular spot.
The back of the cupboard is shaped near the base, designed to sit over a tall skirting board.
I can imagine this in a railway station ticket office or perhaps in a sorting office, the interior pigeon holed interior would certainly be useful in that kind of setting.

The cupboard is well made from quarter sawn oak. Despite its fairly compact size it is very heavy and solid with fielded panel doors to the front which latch closed on the inside.
The doors open to reveal a fitted pigeon hole interior with removable plywood dividers.
The cupboard is set on a plinth base and the back is shaped, as previously mentioned.
There is no key for the door, a brass catch to the right keeps the doors closed, the key shown is purely decorative.

The wood has a beautifully wax polished finish which has a lot of character.
