The End of the Summer?

Posted by clare stephens on

The mornings are getting colder, the nights seem to be drawing in and it feels like summer is coming to an end. Mum and I enjoyed the bank holiday Monday, selling at our favourite car boot at Abbotskerwell cricket club, sadly the last one of the year. I was very sensible, I actually managed to not buy much, a rare thing for me, just a lovely vintage silver bangle from the 1960s which has not left my arm in the last week and a Rick Stein paperback, my absolute favourite chef.  This year has flown by and soon the early...

A lazy Sunday car booting

Posted by clare stephens on

It was drizzly and grey this morning as I headed off to meet my mum for a trip to our local car boot sale. I blame her for my second hand addiction, it is something that ties us together, we have loved spending time together in this way since as long as I can remember and we often joke that when she's old and doddery I will push her around in a wheel chair hunting for bargains. The car boot was a large one, held at our local racecourse and looked promising with plenty of stalls to keep us...

New items for the new year

We had a lovely Christmas, a pretty lazy one, with plenty of time infront of the fire and long walks dicovering the countryside around the village with Major Briggs in tow. As usual it was difficult to force ourselves back to work but we have done so with gusto, throwing ourselves back into the continual hunt for antique and vintage pieces. We have...

New Paint Palette

I have been using paints from The Little Greene Paint Company and Farrow and Ball for many years, I love their colour ranges and nothing excites me more than bringing home a new colour to experiment with. I regularly mixed my own colours and have begun creating a new colour palette to make our pieces more unique. The new colours are inspired by the beautiful countryside and the wildlife that surrounds our home in Denbury. Over the coming months I will add to the range with new greys, greens, blues and neutrals to compliment the antique pieces that we find on...

A new addition to the Vintage House team

Posted by clare stephens on

Paul and I decided, after many months of hinting from me, that we would get a dog. We are lucky enough to have a beautiful home but sadly no garden so our first choice for a rescue pet had to be abandoned due to regulations for re-homing, a real shame as it would have been nice to have a second hand pet, after all we love anything pre-loved. After a lot of internet research Paul decided that the only dog for us was a Welsh Terrier, a tan and black bearded dog that is supposedly the oldest known breed in...
