Vintage Black Painted 1950s Armoire Wardrobe
This is an attractive vintage wardrobe which dates to the 1950s.
Made of mahogany and mixed woods this piece is well made, heavy and solid and is ideal for a bedroom. The wardrobe is one solid piece but does appear to come apart, although I have not taken it to pieces, it could potentially be dismantled for ease of access if required, once it has been delivered.
The wardrobe has a dome top and the front is fitted with two tall doors decorated with ornate brass Oriental style hinges and door handles. The doors are lockable and the key is present. The doors open to reveal a hanging rail and shoe rail to the left and to the right two glazed compartments and a shelf and basket. The basket is my own addition, perfect for scarves and belts.
I have hand painted the exterior in my own mix of water based black paint, the interior has been left in the natural wood. The paintwork has been lightly distressed and then waxed for protection, it has a smooth low sheen finish.
The wardrobe is generally in good condition, there are some small marks and dents here and there. The shelf inside is a replacement, it looks as though there was once a slide or drawer which has been lost so we added a shelf to replace the missing part.
The interior has a 1950s smell which will probably fade with use!
