Vintage 1930s Black Writing Bureau desk with presentation plaque
This is a handsome vintage writing bureau which dates to the 1930s.
Made of mahogany and mixed woods it is quite solid and well made, a nice piece which has stood the test of time well.
This piece is ideal for an office or study and makes a nice alternative to a traditional desk. It is a useful work space for any home, perfect for using a laptop or writing letters.
The bureau is simply styled, the top fitted with a fall front which opens to reveal a fitted interior with pigeon holes and a small drawer for stationery and correspondence. The fall front is lockable and the key is present. There is a small brass presentation plaque to the inside of the desk dating to 1932.
Below the top section are three spacious drawers, all finished with brass drop handles set on round back plates.
The bureau is set on cabriole style legs finished with ball and claw feet.
I have hand painted this piece in my own mix of black water based paint before distressing the paintwork for a gently aged look. The paintwork has been waxed for protection and has a nice smooth finish with a low sheen.
height to top-103cms
height to fall front-75cms
width-82cms at the widest point of the legs, 76cms at the top
depth-45cms(at the top)
The bureau is in solid structural condition with many small marks of age and use.
There are quite a few old wood worm holes to the sides, back and underside which have been treated and filled.
The top drawer has some old stains and the top of the bureau has quite a few scratches below the paintwork.
The small internal drawer is missing a section of wood along the underside, this is not obvious until you pull it completely out.
