Victorian Book, Nipping Press and Table by Waterlow Bros & Layton London c1880
This is a handsome antique mahogany book press which dates to around 1880.
Made by Waterlow Bros & Layton of London the bookpress is made of cast iron and is extremely solid and heavy.
The book press is in working order and has a black japanned finish decorated with parcel gilding.
The press is set into a small walnut and fruitwood table which has drop sides and two narrow drawers to the front which are finished with original brass cup handles.
The table has splayed legs fitted at the base with metal brackets to allow the table to be fixed to the floor.
The table and press generally in good condition for their age with many small marks of use. The table is quite heavily marked and scarred, especially the right hand drop leaf.
There are marks and losses to the japanned finish of the press.
