Superb Antique Oak Roll Top Writing Desk
This is a handsome oak roll top desk which dates to the 1930s.
The desk is heavy, solid and well made, a masculine and evocative looking piece which will make a statement in an office or study.
The desk comes in two parts, the removable top section features a tambour lid which opens to reveal an arrangement of pigeon holes and small drawers for stationery and correspondence.
The top is set on a solid base with twin pedestals housing an arrangement of six drawers which surround a central drawer. The two bottom drawers are double depth, designed for storing files. The sides and back of the desk are attractively panelled and the desk is set on hidden castors.
The tambour top is lockable and this needs to be pushed open to unlock the drawers, there are two mechanisms hidden in the backs of the pedestals which are activated when you roll the top open, this unlocks the drawers.
The wood has a polished finish which has a lovely sheen.
The key works well and the roll top runs smoothly.

The desk is in solid structural condition with various small cosmetic marks of age and use to the wood here and there.
The top has some marks and the desk space has some marks near the front edge.
The drawer interiors have marks to the bases.
