Small Georgian Lowboy Writing Table or Console with Leather Insert and Drawers
An attractive antique late Georgian lowboy table dating to the early half of the 19th century.
Made from mahogany and mixed woods the table is fairly compact and could serve a variety of purposes in any home. It is ideally suited for use as a small writing desk but could also be used as a console or side table.
The table has a small rectangular top which, at a later date, has been inset with a piece of black tooled leather. The top is finished with a small back plate.
Below the table top are two narrow drawers and a central dummy drawer, the handles are large and attractive, made of aged looking brass.
The table is set on tall ring turned legs and the wood has a waxed finish which has a good amount of character.
height-77cms to the table top plus 2cms for the back plate
height to bottom of central drawer- 65cms
The table is generally in good structural condition with many small cosmetic marks of age and use.
The top has marks here and there and the key for the drawers is missing.
As mentioned, the leather insert is a later addition, we have shown the underside of the table to show where this has been fitted.
