Small Antique 19th century Mahogany Chest of Drawers
This is a handsome chest of drawers which dates to the mid 1800s.
Made of mahogany and mixed woods it is a quality piece which is very well made, solid and heavy. It would have been originally used as a washstand with a ceramic jug and bowl in the days before fitted bathrooms came into use.
The chest is modestly sized and will provide a good amount of storage in any home.
The front has four graduated drawers which are finished with turned wooden handles. The drawers run well and the interiors are in clean condition, one drawer has a repair inside the top front edge where the lock had been prised off.
The top of the chest has a gallery to the back and the chest is set on turned feet.
The wood has a highly polished finish.
The chest is generally in good structural condition with many small cosmetic marks of age and use. The top has various marks and scratches below the polished finish.
Three of the locks are period replacements.
Basically it has an elegantly aged look but is generally in good condition for its age.
