Painted Yellow Davenport Desk with Lift up Lid
This is an attractive well aged little Davenport desk which dates to the late 19th century.
Made of mahogany and veneers it is fairly petite, ideal for an office or study, perfect for a small space.
The davenport makes a nice alternative to a traditional desk and is a useful work space for any home, perfect for stowing away a small laptop.
This piece is simply styled, the top fitted with a sloped lift up lid which opens to reveal a fitted interior with pigeon holes and two small drawers for stationery and correspondence.
To one side there are four narrow drawers, all finished with turned wooden handles, to the opposing side are four dummy drawers. There is a small pull out drawer to one side which is hinged, this was designed for storing ink pens.
I have hand painted this piece in my own mix of pale yellow paint before distressing the paintwork for an aged look. The paintwork has been colour glazed to give depth and character and then waxed for protection.
height-78cms at the front rising to 87cms at the back
interior space measures 42cms wide x 34.5cms deep x 6cms high
The davenport is in solid structural condition with many marks of age and use.
Quite a few of the handles are chipped or damaged and there is a sliver of wood missing near the front edge on one side.
There are a few old filled wood worm holes to the front near the base.
It is well aged looking with a lot of character.
