Painted Pine Sea Chest Coffee Table with Primitive Ship Painting
This is a handsome antique pine trunk which dates to the late 1800's.
It would have once been used as a piece of luggage on long sea voyages but would now be ideal for use as a coffee table chest, perfect for display purposes and for stowing things away.
Made of solid pine the trunk is well made and solid, it is quite rustic with a well aged black painted finish which is very textured looking.
The trunk has a lift up lid which has been hand painted with a primitive ship design and the front of the trunk bears the name
Reuben Hogg 1st engineer
The trunks interior is lined with patterned paper, there is an oily mark to the paper on the base.
The trunk is in solid structural condition with many small marks and knocks.
The lid had a shrinkage crack which has been repaired and there is a small chip of wood missing near the back on the right hand side.
There are some old inactive woodworm holes to the base which have been treated as a precaution. The paper lining to the interior is very aged and torn in places with an oily mark to the base.
The measurements are taken at the widest points.
