Large Gustavian Style Painted Coffer
This is a large rustic oak coffer which dates to the mid 19th century.
It is a heavy and solid, made of solid oak and is a substantial piece which could serve a variety of purposes in any home.
The coffer has attractive panelling and a large lift up lid to the top which opens to reveal a candle box and clean interior storage space.
To the base is a single wide drawer finished with turned knobs.
I have professionally hand painted the coffer in white and grey before aging the finish to give a beautifully rustic Gustavian look.
The paintwork has been distressed and then waxed for protection.
The coffer is in solid condition with a couple of repaired shrinkage cracks to either side panel.
There are many cosmetic marks of age and use, especially to the lid and there is also a small area of damage to the corner of the lid.
The lock keeper to the lid is missing and one hinge is missing a little piece at the end.
The measurements are taken at the widest points.
