Large Antique Painted Black Bow Front Chest of Drawers
This is a handsome large antique chest of drawers which dates to the late 19th century, it is a substantial and evocative looking piece which will make a statement in any room.
The chest is made of mahogany, oak and mixed woods and is very solid, heavy and well made.
The chest is elegantly styled, the bow front fitted with an arrangement of six drawers which are all finished with turned black handles. The drawers have their original bone escutcheons and locks but sadly the key has been lost somewhere in time, the one shown is purely decorative.
The chest is set on bracket feet and under the top edge is a band of decorative inlay.
I have hand painted this piece in my own mix of black water based paint before distressing the paintwork for a gently aged look. The finish has been glazed to give a nice sheen and then waxed for protection.
The chest is in solid structural condition with many small cosmetic marks of age and use.
The drawer interiors are in fairly clean condition and the drawer runners have worn over the years but still run quite well.
There have been some internal repairs to the body of the chest, the right hand side panel has filled shrinkage cracks and the feet have some repairs. There are some little gaps at the sides of the drawers where the wood has bowed out over the years.
One of the escutcheons is damaged and one is a replacement, also several of the handles have been repaired.
It is basically well aged but elegant none the less.
depth- 61cms not including the handles
