Gustavian Painted Country Dresser
This is a handsome country oak dresser which dates to the early 1900s.
The dresser is made of solid oak and is heavy and well made but has the benefit of splitting into two parts.
It has a rustic country look which will suit a farmhouse or cottage, the perfect piece if you love Gustavian shabby chic style furniture.
The base has an open stretchered base set under double panelled doors, the doors open to reveal a useful cupboard for storage. The doors are lockable and the key is present.
The top of the dresser has a panelled back and three shelves set under a scalloped cornice. The shelves have a groove cut into the back to allow plates or pictures to be easily displayed.
I have hand painted the dresser in my own mix of pale beige/taupe paint before distressing and ageing the finish for a Gustavian look.
The top of the base has been left in the natural dark wood, simply waxed for protection.
The dresser is generally in good structural condition with small marks of age and use to the wood a few shrinkage gaps here and there.
The front top corner of the base has a chip of wood missing.
shelf heights, bottom 29.5cms, middle 29cms, top 35cms
shelf depth 15cms
The measurements are taken at the widest points and the dresser splits into two parts.
