Glazed Display Cabinet Book Case with Scumble Glazed Bitumen finish
This is a handsome antique glazed cabinet which dates to the early 1900s.
It is a useful piece which is ideal for display, perfect for storing curiosities and books.
Its simple lines and rustic style make it a good statement piece for any home and being fairly compact means that it is perfect for a small space such as an alcove.
Made of pine and mixed woods with hardboard for the back the cabinet is fitted with a double glazed doors to the front which open to reveal three fixed wooden shelves. The right hand door has an old metal handle which turns to keep the door closed.
The wood has a very unusual finish, a bitumenized glaze which is very characterful looking.
I have hand painted the back of the cabinet in a pale grey paint which contrasts well against the dark brown exterior.
The cabinet is in good structural condition.
One pane of glass has been replaced and the cabinet has been treated for woodworm to the base.
The shelves can be taken out but they help to hold the glass in place at the sides of the cabinet.
