Georgian Mahogany Chest of Drawers with Secret Drawer
This is a handsome antique chest of drawers which dates to the early 1800s.
It is made of mahogany and veneers and is an elegant and useful storage piece for a bedroom.
The chest is in solid structural condition for its age, a quality piece of late Georgian furniture which will provide a good amount of storage in any home.
The chest has five spacious drawers, two small over three wide, which are finished with decorative drop handles and cock beading. The drawers all run well and the interiors are in good clean condition. Above the drawers is a further small secret drawer which can be opened by sliding a hand inside the top drawers. This small drawer has a tattered blue paper lining.
The chest is set on bracket and the wood has a French Polished finish which has a nice sheen.
The chest is generally in good structural condition with many small cosmetic marks of age and use. The top has various marks below the polished finish and the side panels have some dents and knocks.
There are some historical repairs here and there to its construction.
The handles are later replacements and two of the drawer locks are replacements.
It has an aged but elegant look.
