Antique Welsh Country Pine Linen Press Wardrobe
This is a useful two part antique Welsh pine linen press which dates to the mid 19th century.
Made of solid pine and pitch pine this lovely antique piece is ideal for a large bedroom, a handsome statement piece which makes a nice alternative to a traditional wardrobe.
The linen press is well made and solid and splits into two parts, the top has double panelled doors which open to reveal internal removable shelves and a graduated top plinth.
The base section consists of a large four drawer chest set on a narrow base plinth. The drawers are fitted with later turned handles and one has some writing to the base showing its provenance of being purchased in Wales.
The wood has a lovely waxed finish which has a very low sheen. The photos make it look darker than it looks in natural light.
The press is generally in good structural condition with various cosmetic marks of age and use, it has been sympathetically restored to retain its character and make it useful for years to come.
There are some old inactive wood worm holes here and there and the key is purely decorative, an internal brass latch was added at some point to keep the right hand door closed. The knobs are antique replacements as are the shelves, made from reclaimed Victorian pine. .
