Antique Painted Green Book Cabinet
This is a useful antique cabinet which dates to the late 19th century.
Made of mahogany and pine it is ideal for any room and could serve a variety of purposes in any home. It was originally intended for use as a book cabinet but could be used as a larder or hall cabinet.
The front of the cabinet is fitted with two panelled doors, these are lockable and there is a key but it is a bit temperamental so a small magnetic catch has been added to keep the doors closed.
The doors open to reveal a panelled back and three removable wooden shelves which have beading towards the back. The shelves sit on wooden batons which are fixed into place on the insides of the cabinet.
I have hand painted the exterior in a pale green water based paint before distressing the finish and using a dark glaze to give the paintwork an aged look. The paintwork is solid colour and is smooth and quite matt.
The cabinet is generally in good structural condition with many cosmetic marks of age and use, mainly to the interior which is a little rustic looking. There is a crack in the back panels on the left hand side and the top shelf has warped over the years.
The key works but can be a bit temperamental.
