Antique Large Black Painted Sideboard
This is an attractive and useful antique sideboard which dates to the late 1800s.
Made of mahogany and mixed woods it is fairly solid and well made made, a useful storage piece for a lounge, kitchen or dining room.
The sideboard is quite large and has carved doors to either end which flank four small central doors, these are set below three spacious drawers. The doors open to reveal cupboards with fixed shelves, the right hand cupboard would have once housed a pull out decanter drawer which has been removed at some point in time.
The sideboard is very ornate with lovely carvings and is finished with brass drop handles. All of the doors have their original locks, we have one key which keeps the top cupboard closed.
I have hand painted this piece in my own mix of black chalk based paint before distressing the finish for an aged look and then finishing with wax for protection. The interior has been left in the natural wood.
The paintwork is solid colour with a smooth low sheen finish.
The top of the sideboard has been stripped back to the natural wood and French Polished, it has a beautiful sheen which gives the sideboard a touch of elegance and class.
The sideboard is generally in good structural condition having been checked over in our workshop. There are various cosmetic marks here and there and a couple of chips to the feet. One of the handles is a replacement and one has a new drop. To either side panel there are a couple of small shrinkage cracks to the wood.
