Antique George III Mahogany Writing Bureau desk with fall front
This is a handsome quality antique writing bureau which dates to the early 19th century.
Made of mahogany, oak and mixed woods it is solid, heavy and well made, ideal for an office or study. It will make a nice alternative to a traditional desk and is a useful work space for any home, perfect for stowing away a laptop.
The bureau is simply styled, the top fitted with a wide fall front which opens to reveal a fitted interior with pigeon holes and small drawers for stationery and correspondence. The fall front is fitted with a colourful leather scriver which is in aged condition.
Below the top section are four spacious drawers, all finished with later brass swan neck drop handles set on simple round back plates.
The bureau is set bracket feet and the wood has a lovely wax polished finish which has a very good sheen.

CONDITION
The bureau is in solid structural condition with many cosmetic marks of age and use.
Over the years it has obviously had some work done, the back panel looks to be a late Victorian replacement, the feet may also not be original.
There have been small repairs made here and there and the handles are later antique replacements. The leather scriver is well aged and there are many marks of use to the interior.
Despite its active life it is a very attractive and good quality piece of furniture.
