Antique Black Painted Pedestal Desk
This is a handsome antique desk which dates to the mid 19th century. It is an evocative and masculine looking piece which will suit an antique setting.
The desk is made of mahogany and pine and is fairly well made but not particularly heavy, it splits into three parts so is very easy to transport and position in any home.
The desk has a rectangular top set on twin pedestals each housing three graduated drawers. The drawers have turned mahogany handles and the pedestals are set on deep base plinths.
Set over the pedestals are three further drawers.
I have hand painted the desk in my own mix of black water based paint before distressing the finish for an aged look and then waxing the paintwork for protection.
The paintwork is solid colour and the finish is smooth and fairly matt looking.
The desk is in good structural condition with many cosmetic marks of age and use.
The drawer interiors have ink stains and marks of age and use, the key is not present.
The desk top has various dents and scratches in the leather below the painted surface.
kneehole space measures-60cms high x 48cms wide at the base
The measurements are taken at the widest points and the desk splits into three parts.
