Antique 19th Century Gentleman's Washstand Cabinet
This is a well aged and handsome little cabinet which dates to the mid 1880s.
The cabinet is made from mahogany and veneers and is fairly petite, originally designed for use as a gentleman's washstand.
It would make a nice alternative to a bedside cabinet or could perhaps be used in a bathroom for stowing away medicines.
The cabinet has two lift up lids to the top which open to reveal a pull up mirror to the back.
The top section is set over a small cupboard space with door and a narrow drawer.
The cabinet is set on tall tapered legs finished with spade feet and the wood has a French Polished finish which has a nice sheen.
CONDITION
The cabinet is very well aged and has seen an active life.
There have been some repairs made internally to fix the mechanism that holds the mirror up.
There are shrinkage cracks to the side panels and generally the cabinet is very characterful.
