Aesthetic Movement Music Cabinet with fall front & hand painted design
This is a charming antique music cabinet which dates to the late 1800s.
It is a useful piece which is ideal for display purposes and for storing sheet music.
Designed during the Aesthetic Movement it has a very evocative look and is quite unique, the perfect piece for anyone who likes unusual furniture.
The cabinet is made of mahogany and is modestly sized, not particularly large, so perfect for an alcove or a room with limited space.
The front is fitted with two drawers set over a fall front which opens to reveal two narrow shelves for storage.
The fall front and top pediment of the cabinet have been hand painted with foliage and butterflies and the cabinet edges have the original faded ebonized finish.
The cabinet has an ornate tiered top fitted with a mirror and decorative turned spindles.
The base of the cabinet is set on delicate turned legs and the wood has a naturally waxed finish which has a nice sheen.
The cabinet is in good structural condition. One of the back legs looks wonky but is quite secure and sturdy.
There are many various small marks of age and wear to the finish which give it just the right amount of character and charm.
